U.S. President-elect Joe Biden's twitter feed has informed President-elect Joe Biden's team that Donald Trump's social network followers will not move to the new president's official account.
This was referred to by various media such as Bloomberg and Business Insider. This means Biden will start tweeting without followers, which will prevent him from reaching millions of users.
In fact, this is a step backwards from the previous administration, because when Trump took office in January 2017, the account @POTUS had more than 13 million followers.
On the same day, the account was changed to @POTUS44, an archive of Barack Obama's official tweets. This same account retained its followers, who were also automatically added as followers to the newly created POTUS account of the Trump administration.
That's exactly what's not going to happen in this change of leadership. "We've been informed on Twitter that from now on, the Biden administration will have to start from scratch," said Rob Flaherty, Biden's chief digital officer.
According to Biden's team, Twitter should send a notification to users who follow @JoeBiden or@KamalaHarris to suggest that they are following biden's transition team's @transition46 account. Later, this account will be renamed to @whitehouse, according to the same team.
